on to support
> programm stealing.

who said anything about supporting it?
i implied that i did not understand why webmasters w
onder why people steal their stuff...
the only advice i gave as to what to do about any of
this was in the last three larger paragraphs of the
post, where the only thing i said people should do
about it is not put all their eggs in uncertain bask
ets... my example was relying on a full storage sit
e...
that was the only advice i gave and i did not mentio
n stealing, copying or anything of that sort...

> but stealing
> the source code will just result in seeing the sam
e pages all over
> the net, with the only change of a copyright at th
e bottom claiming

ke a mad to obtain
> this result.

well, it happens all the time... my stuff is all ov
er with no credit and i do not whine about it... be
tter that someone has it then to lock it up so no on
e can get it because i am afraid they will not tell
me how great i am...
people have been taking stuff from dcbg and taking c
redit for it the whole time... and, in many cases,
the dcbg stuff was taken from elsewhere in the first
 place...
in fact, how many ideas could even be said to be tru
ly original?
watever happened to just getting them what they want
, no matter who tries to take credit for it?
most useful site we have ever had is still anonymous
, not even the japs know who runs it... i think we
can all take a lesson from that...

we have had plenty of people here fighting for credi
t and they always turn out to be attention whores, n
eeding the praise or they will leave and go do somet
hing that will get them praise...
we may lose some useful stuff, but, at least we do n
ot have to kiss someone's butt...
praise should be offered freely, not forced...

> and what makes me mad is when ppl is angry at prog
rammers
> who did their best to make ppl enjoy their work, l
ike dreamsaves
> owner, u should appreciate what he did for u and f
or free. now thats
> too bad all his database is lost

kefka wrote the scripts dreamserv used, the people u
ploaded the files, what exactly is left to take cred
it for? site layout? paying server cost? he did w
hat he did for fun, not to help... if helping was h
is first priority, those files would not be lost now
....

i think it is absurd that people should feel free to
praise him for the site, but, not be upset about th
eir files he dumped with no warning and no reason ot
her than "eh, i got bored with it"... the good come
s with the bad, people will be pissed...
you don't offer something to someone, then yank it a
way and say "hey, you should be glad you got it at a
ll!"...
people throw good sites up all the time and then the
y vanish in a year or two... the REAL accomplishmen
t is keeping a site up... now, THAT is something wo
rth praise...

> but u could had avoid this by saving
> all the files u needed before it closed and upload
 them to your mail
> account or to another site.

now wait, i thought you just said stealing was wrong
? and you just said in your last post that you had
copies all the vm files from sega.com... what exact
ly is it you think people are stealing? and what exa
ctly do you think i am telling people to steal?

> to me the most important thing to keep

fact is, providing people with free stuff is a thank
less job 99% of the time...
results are expected, not good intentions... and th
at is the problem... people do something in their s
pare time and expect praise... minimal effort, maxi
mum reward... now, if you make something earth-shat
teringly wonderful, that is different, or if you get
paid for it and it leads no where, it is not logica
l to continue if no on buys what you are selling...
but, to float from one interest to another, trying
to get praise, finding one that gets you attention,
staying with that, and then trying to hand out this
line about "oh, i sacrfice my time and you don't app
reciate me!"...

whatever...

you don't go to beggars and expect fans... people l
ooking for free stuff that cannot make their own do
not know the amount of time and effort and study it
takes, they just want their free stuff... and they
take all they can get... thanks are rare and that i
s just the way it is...
over two years i have run this place and we have a t
housand complaints to one compliment, but, the diffe
rence is that the smart ones do not expect more than
 that...

now, if we show off our work to people who know bett
er, we get positive comments... but, you don' get t
hat from people just wanting free stuff... and i am
not about to continually post about how people shou
ld be grateful for all we do... if they think we do
something worthy of gratitude that is for them to s
ay, not for us to request... it is a thakless under
taking and you do it with that understanding or you
go seek glory somewhere else, that is just the way i
t is... when the positive comes in, great, but, 99%
of what you get is silence, people copying all your
stuff, complaints, and endless requests for even mo
re and/or better stuff...
if it is THAT important, then you just have to go ab
ove and beyond... and above and beyond does not inc
lude closing your site and then being offended when
people have a problem with that...
